Our project Developing Ghana’s Care Economy: Case and Potential is an interdisciplinary project which in light of the good news that people live longer in the global south, aims to address some of the challenges that also comes with an increase in the number of care dependent older people.
We want to contribute to an advanced policy and scientific debate on long term care (LTC) whether in family or formal settings, unpaid care and women’s empowerment in Africa and to a movement toward evidence-informed policies and strategies on LTC in Ghana and at the Africa-region level.
Specifically we focus on Ghana, exploring the norms, needs, demands of care dependent older people and their caregivers, both within families and in the emerging formal sector, and seeking to identify and develop solutions that can support better LTC services to the benefit of care dependent older people, their families and society.
