New clinical professor in hematology strengthens cancer research at Aarhus University

On September 1, 2024, Tarec Christoffer El-Galaly will assume the position of Clinical Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine. He is recognized for his research in hematology - the study of blood disorders, with a particular focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of hematologic cancers such as lymphoma.

The new Clinical Professor at Health graduated as a medical doctor from Aarhus University in 2007 and later specialized in hematology. In 2017, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Aalborg University. Since 2021, Tarec has been a Clinical Professor at Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital.

Now, he returns to Aarhus in a position as Clinical Professor with affiliations to the Department of Hematology, the Department of Molecular Medicine (MOMA), and the Department of Clinical Epidemiology (KEA). As a researcher, his primary focus is on epidemiology and "real-world data" in hematology, but he also has an interest in clinical trials and regulatory aspects.

"Data plays a crucial role in improving diagnosis, treatment, and side effect management. The goal of my research is to use real-world data to help healthcare professionals create better outcomes for patients with hematologic cancers," he says.

Tarec Christoffer El-Galaly has extensive experience in clinical and administrative work both nationally and internationally. He is, among other roles, an external researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and an adjunct professor in hematology at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Additionally, he has broad experience from roles including work with the Danish Medicines Agency, the pharmaceutical industry, and as chair of the Danish Lymphoma Group.
