Michael Baggesen Klitgaard, Head of Department
At the Department of Public Health we conduct internationally leading research to advance fundamental understanding and applied solutions in public health. We foster outstanding academic environments and nurture future health professionals through innovative and rigorous education. Our work spans theoretical, basic and applied science, aiming to generate new knowledge and improve public health.
Our researchers examine the biological, behavioral, social and societal factors that shape health, behaviour, access to care and physical performance. We link basic scientific insight with practical approaches to today’s public health challenges.
We teach and educate future health professionals to work with curiosity, methodological rigour, and a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and decision-making.
As a teacher you benefit from working with our Danish and international students in a professional learning environment, characterized by high ambitions and mutual respect.
The Department of Public Health is shaped by the pioneering work of Professor Johannes Ipsen. He contributed to defining public health as a scientific discipline by showing how social conditions, human behaviour and the design of health systems influence health — and by insisting on rigour methods as the foundation for good scientific research.
Ipsen was also a committed humanist, known for his warmth and generosity.
His belief that public health is, above all, about people, continues to guide us in how we shape our workplace today:
Respect, openness and a shared passion for understanding public health and human lives more generally.
We have standardized hiring procedures for everyone who wishes to apply for a position at the Faculty of Health.
