2022: Anti-Doping Research: What's Left to Do?

Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that the registration for the INDR conference in 2022 is now open. The conference will take place on 18 and 19 August 2022 at Aarhus University. We plan to hold the conference with on-site participation only and do not currently foresee including online participation. We believe face to face interaction and informal socializing are key components of the INDR network and part of what makes our community so special.

The theme for the next INDR conference is “Anti-Doping Research: What Is Left Do?” In 2022 we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our network. Founded in 2002 to put anti-doping research on the agendas of sport organizations and political bodies, many INDR scholars have contributed to the research-based debates on anti-doping. As we learned in the last INDR conference in 2019, interdisciplinary research is now an essential component of anti-doping policy-making. Therefore we want to open a discussion on the relevance, aims, and objectives of anti-doping research in general and of our network in particular.

Two keynote speakers have confirmed their participation:

  • Hajo Seppelt - Journalist and Author
  • Lovely Dasgupta - West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences

Additionally, we will organize a Panel Discussion with senior and junior researchers on the overarching conference theme.

We are also pleased to confirm that we will host an Early Career Workshop on 17 August. The workshop aims to give early career researchers (M.A. students, Ph.D. candidates, Post-Docs within their first two years) the chance to exchange ideas and team up with more experienced scholars. Participants will have the opportunity to extend their knowledge of the INDR network and strengthen their conference skills through selected activities, such as a short presentation from each participant (“3-minute thesis”). Workshop participation is free.

Registration

You can register for the conference and the early career workshop via this link (https://events.au.dk/indr2022). As in past years, the registration fee includes the book of abstracts, the conference dinner on Friday, two lunches, and coffee. We have an early bird rate that is valid until 31 March 2022.

Abstract Submission

If you are planning to present at the conference, we kindly ask you to submit an abstract via email to krieger@ph.au.dk. The abstract should be no longer than 400 words. The deadline for abstract submission is 30 April 2022.

All presenters are invited to submit a paper to a special issue of Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy journal that we will publish after the conference.

We are looking forward to receiving your abstracts.

The International Network of Doping Researchers announces its first Early Career Workshop prior to the 2022 conference. The aim of the workshop is to give early career researchers (ECRs)* the chance to exchange ideas and team up with more experienced scholars. Participants will have the opportunity to extend their knowledge of the INDR network and strengthen their conference skills through selected activities.

The workshop will include a short presentation from each participant (“3-minute thesis”), followed by immediate feedback by senior experts. The ECR with the best presentation will be invited to write an editorial for the special issue following the conference on the conference theme. Additionally, we will host a panel discussion on the conference theme and one ECR will be selected by their peers to join the panel during the conference.

All participants are invited to dinner following the workshop. Afterwards we will join some of the other conference participants at Peter Gift.
