Microbiome – the Environmental Perspective

In the research group “Microbiome – the Environmental Perspective”, we investigate how the environment affects the human microbiome and subsequently human health. The human microbiome is affected by our surrounding environment, both indoors and outdoors.

Our interest in the microbiome stems from our elaborate research on farming exposures and the beneficial effects on the human immune system. Our environment, such as the farming environment, has a direct impact on the constitution on our microbiome. The human microbiome affects human health directly and indirectly, and we aim to add to the scientific knowledge of this link.

Research areas

Our research includes the following fields of study:

  • The domestic indoor microbiome
  • Urban rural microbiome differences
  • The adult human microbiome
  • The infant human microbiome
